Usually, when summer comes, we look for ways to preserve the season's fruits. Today we will see how to make your own jam. Why make your own jam? It is healthy and you can control its level of sweetness and here is a step by step recipe as how to make and can jam.
ingredients:
-1kg strawberries
-350 granulated sugar
- lemon juice (half of lemon if big)
instructions:
- Wash and sanitize the jars and lids by boiling them for 10 min.
-Cut the strawberries into thin slices or mush them a bit.
-Mix them with sugar and lemon juice in a large pot.
-Put the pot in the fridge for 8 hours.
-Cook them to a full boil slowly on medium heat that will reduce foaming.
-Remove any excessive foam.
-Let the jam cool once it thickens up to the consistency you like.
-Fill the jars and put the lids.
-Put the jars in boiling water and boil them for 5 min.
-Remove and cool the jars.
N.B: if you intend to eat the jam immediately, keep it in the fridge or freezer.
